10/07/08 - Warwick A (7) vs (5) Boldmere A by Jonathan Fleet

It was back to the midland league on Thursday, with a home game against Boldmere. Having lost the Warwick Cup final earlier in the season to Boldmere, Warwick were in no mood to consider a defeat.

Kirk Holland won the first swim, and Warwick forced an exclusion foul, but their first attack came to nothing. Almost 2 minutes of the quarter were gone before Boldmere opened the scoring. After the restart, Kirk Holland equalized for Warwick. Matt Wardle added a second, and Warwick continued to create problems for Boldmere , winning 3 more exclusions, but failed to convert any of the extra man advantages. Boldmere equalized before the end of the quarter, leaving Warwick to rue many missed opportunities.

Kirk Holland won the swim again (on his way to a clean sweep) and Matt Wardle scored after 2 minutes, the game continued from end to end with Warwick failing to convert another exclusion, but a solid defence prevented any goals from Boldmere.

After a mix up at the end of the 2nd quarter Boldmere were awarded a penalty at the start of the 3rd, which they scored, to level the match. Warwick again failed to convert a man up before Scott Haystead scored from a man up with the quarter half gone. Warwick’s dismal performance on the man ups continued, they missed another 2 before winning a penalty with was converted by Wardle.

Warwick went into the final quarter 2 goals up but conceded after 30 seconds of the final quarter. Warwick won another penalty, scored by Wardle, who was himself excluded 15 seconds later, letting Boldmere score to once again come within a single goal, but the final exclusion of the game went Warwick’s way and a quick shot from Haystead restored the 2 goal cushion and the game ended 7-5 to Warwick.
